Proverbs 1:2: To know wisdom and instruction; to
perceive the words of understanding.

Solomon wrote Proverbs because he wanted to give us instruction, wisdom, and understanding. We have a private mentor in King Solomon the wisest king ever in cooperation with the King of kings. God gave to Solomon more wisdom and understanding than any person in history.
Solomon wrote to share his great wisdom and social experiments for his son and the ruling of Israel. It was his hope to help his son and the nation of Israel to avoid a foolish lifestyle and choose the fear of the Lord. He also hoped to accomplish in giving people instruction and understanding that would make them wise and live a more pleasing and prosperous life that God intended for them to have.
He wants you to know instruction, which is teaching, informing, directions of life, in regards to education, training, discipline and successful living.
He wants you to know wisdom, which is knowledge, insight, good sense of right judgment, in regards to choosing the best decision for the best end result. To choose good and not evil.
He wants you to know understanding, which is to comprehend, interpret,
intelligence, in regards to having the ability to judge right from
wrong, good from bad.
You can be taught these things but you have to apply yourself, have a willingness and teachable attitude, and stay focused. People who desire these attributes and will dedicate themselves will have a happy life.
Of course the ultimate source of understanding is taught by Jesus Christ for he is the One greater than Solomon.
