WISDO WISDOM FOR WINNING: Words

Proverbs 18:21: “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit."

What we say probably affects more people than any other action we take.  Proverbs gives special attention to words and how they are used.  There are four common speech patterns described in Proverbs.  The first two should be copied, but the last two should be avoided.

The Caring Tongue:   Those with this speech pattern think before speaking, know when silence is best, and give wise advice.

Proverbs; 10:19;11:12,13;12:16

13:3;15:1,4;28:16;16:23; 17:14,27,28;21:23;24:26

The Restrained Tongue:  Those with this speech pattern speak truthfully while seeking to encourage.

Proverbs: 10:32; 12:18, 25; 15:23; 16:24; 25:15; 27:9

   The Unheeding Tongue:  Those with this speech pattern are filled with lies, curses, quick tempered words-which can lead to rebellion and destruction.

Proverbs:10:18,32;11:9;12:16,18;15:4;17:9,14;20:19;

25:23

    The Conspiring Tongue:   Those with this speech pattern are filled with wrong motives, gossip, slander, and a desire to twist the truth.6:12-14; 8:13; 16:28; 18:8 25:18; 26:20-28

Our speech and actions reveal the true underlying beliefs, attitudes, and motivations.  The good impressions we try to make cannot last if our hearts are deceptive.  What is in your heart will come out in your speech and behavior.

To change your world, you have to change your words!

Our brain is like a computer, we can control what goes in.  So don't put negative thoughts in your brain.  If you do this, there will be no negative words coming out of your mouth.  Start each day with positive thoughts, which by the way are made up of positive words.  Every time you open your mouth to talk, you get to choose what words you are going to say. I would encourage you to choose your words respectively, honorably, cautiously, truthfully, motivational and optimistically.

There are three things that influence our words: 1) tone of voice 2) touch 3) body language.  As you can already imagine the tone of ones voice can get you into trouble, or get you out of trouble, your tone of voice can bring favor to you, or bring judgment on you.  Touch as with a hug our a gentle touch is therapeutic, for one who has just experienced a bad situation (such as a death, no encouraging medical news) and it can also work the other way around (such as a baby being born, a wedding, or any other happy news.)  Body language has a lot to say.

I know you have seen advertisements with salesmen using hand jesters or preachers using hand jesters, even shaking ones hand at a greeting is a form of body language.  Ones delivery is as important as the message.  Even a smile does wonders.
